It’s been a busy week for Backyard Studios, filling lots of orders for anxious parents and excited kids. I’ve done two re-stocks in the last two weeks and my cottage holiday turned into a sewing retreat! But that’s okay because I’m happy when my colourful masks make it easier and safer for kids and their families that have suffered alll too much. My heart goes out to parents who have kids going back to school, kids staying home and kids off to university. Let’s continue to mask up, social distance and do what we can to keep each other safe....

May 26, 2021 was a very lucky day for me. I received my second Astra Zeneca vaccine and am fully vaccinated. It'll take a couple of weeks to be fully effective but wow, does it feel good and is so liberating. The sun is shining, 65% of Torontonians have their first dose, second doses will start for seniors soon, cases have dropped significantly, there is talk of kids getting back to school and Toronto is preparing for CafeTO, an outdoor program to support restaurants by providing outdoor patio space on sidewalks and parking lanes. It's been a long winter but its really nice to see the sun and the warmer weather. This morning I had my coffee and read the paper in our back garden. Despite it being cool I had a fluffy blanket covering my feet. It was actually beautiful, silent except for the sound of the birds and the feel of the sun on my face felt good. In the past year it sometimes feels that nothing has changed and other times everything but I'll admit that pre-Covid-19 I probably wouldn't have embraced the start of the day like this. 2020 has been quite the ride and a year we will be all happy to have it behind us. Fortunately there is some light at the end of the tunnel with the announcement of at least two vaccines and the promise that all Canadians that want the vaccine will have it by the end of 2021.
